Alaska

Since Tom (our son) and Pam moved to Alaska in 1995 we have been to Alaska nearly every year.  They live in the Mat-Su Valley, about 1 hour north of Anchorage.  The Mat-Su has some nice scenery:  large rivers, small creeks, mountains, hardwood and softwood forests.  We enjoy traveling north to Denali and south to the Kenai Peninsula.  Our son and his family have a boat so we often travel onto Prince William Sound.  The Sound, as does most of

Alaska, offers wildlife, birdlife, sea life and scenery.

Whittier was landlocked for decades, accessible only by railroad or boat.  Only in the early 2000s was a road opened to Whittier---right through the train tunnel!  The tunnel is narrow so the traffic is one-way:  1/2 hour inbound and 1/2 hour outbound.  Lots of time waiting our turn.  I often hop out of the vehicle and do a little photography while waiting.

This is the Savage River at the end of the paved road in Denali NP.  The U shaped valley has been scenic on every trip we make to the park.

Early morning in Prince William Sound, just after sunrise.  I often get up early and paddle the zodiac ashore for shooting while the rest of the "crew" (family) sleeps.  This morning was foggy, as they often are.  Really beautiful before the sun burned it off.

You can view my Alaska album with several more photos at Shutterfly;  I'm sure you will not be surprised to hear that I have several hundred Alaska photos---if there is a particular subject you want I may have it.  We have a CD photo guide to Denali NP at iDocs.
